Cromar Cromaprufe serves as a waterproof membrane for concrete and brick foundations, retaining walls, and bridge abutments, effectively shielding them against water penetration. It offers protection against sulphate attack from soil. Additionally, Cromaprufe functions as a versatile waterproofer for both floors and walls. Moreover, it demonstrates excellent adhesive properties, facilitating the bonding of wood block and wood mosaics, expanded polystyrene, and cork tiles. Furthermore, Cromaprufe provides a suitable surface for plaster application on challenging surfaces.

APPLICATION

  • Surface Preparation:
    • Ensure all surfaces are sound, stable, and free from dust, dirt, grease, oil, and loose matter.
    • Cromaprufe can be applied to damp surfaces, but not waterlogged ones.
    • Porous and hot dry surfaces should be dampened with clean cold water prior to application to assist with product application.
  • Application Instructions:
    • Stir Cromaprufe well before use and apply it by brush.
    • Avoid applying Cromaprufe to external surfaces during wet weather or if rain is expected, and ensure good ventilation in confined areas.
    • Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next coat in multi-coat applications.
  • Waterproofing and Protection:
    • Apply 2 coats of Cromaprufe at a rate of 2m² per liter for waterproofing structures such as foundations, retaining walls, and bridge abutments.
    • Ensure the coating extends to meet the damp-proof course in the base or wall when treating foundations.
    • Cromaprufe can be applied to green concrete surfaces immediately after shuttering removal to serve as a curing membrane, with 48 hours recommended before back-filling.
  • Concrete Beams and Columns:
    • Apply 2 coats of Cromaprufe at a rate of 2m² per liter to provide a damp-proof membrane on concrete beams and columns before cladding with rendering, masonry, or brickwork.
    • After the second coat becomes tacky, blind it with 1 to 2 mm stone chippings or clean sharp sand.
  • Walls:
    • Address rising dampness by inserting a damp-proof course or repairing the existing one if suspected.
    • For exterior walls, remove dirt, dust, and grease, level uneven surfaces with cement mortar, and apply three coats of Cromaprufe at a rate of 2m² per liter, with the final coat blinded with clean sharp sand while tacky.
  • Interior Walls:
    • Remove wallpaper, loose paint, dirt, dust, and grease, and repair damaged plaster.
    • Apply two coats of Cromaprufe at a rate of 2m² per liter to moderately damp interior walls, leaving a section untreated for moisture evaporation.
    • Avoid using gloss paints or oil-based products for decoration over Cromaprufe; instead, use emulsion paints and wallpapers after hanging a lining paper fixed with cellulose paste.
  • Floors:
    • For sandwich construction in severe conditions with penetrating damp, apply two coats of Cromaprufe at a rate of 1m² per liter to a clean concrete subfloor, and blind the second coat with clean sand.
    • Take the Cromaprufe membrane up walls to marry with the damp-proof course and ensure it remains intact before laying a floor covering.
  • Surface Treatment on Existing Floors:
    • Apply a priming coat of diluted Cromaprufe at a rate of 7.5m² per liter, followed by two coats at a rate of 1m² per liter, ensuring each coat reaches the existing damp-proof course.
    • Do not use Cromaprufe as the final surface for pedestrian traffic; it should always be covered by a suitable floor covering material.
  • Wood Blocks and Wood Mosaics Adhesive:
    • Treat the floor as described above if damp conditions are expected.
    • Prime the surface lightly with clean cold water, then dip wood blocks separately into Cromaprufe and press firmly into place, excluding air.
    • For wood mosaic panels, spread Cromaprufe onto the screed at a rate of 0.8m² per liter and immediately place the panels into position.
  • Plastering on Difficult Surfaces:
    • Apply two thin layers of Cromaprufe at a rate of 4.5m² per liter each to surfaces with poor keying properties, such as gloss-painted walls or old tiles.
    • Blind the second coat with clean sharp sand while tacky and allow it to dry for 48 hours before plastering according to plaster manufacturers’ recommendations.
