Bond It Trowel Mastic serves as a versatile trowel-grade substance designed for waterproofing, stopping, bedding, pointing, and sealing. This multi-purpose material is applicable to various surfaces, including mastic asphalt, roofing felt, corrugated iron, cast iron, fiber cement, slates, lead, copper, zinc, concrete, and timber.
APPLICATION
Apply using a steel trowel or putty knife.
For cracks and holes, press the compound into the crack, leaving it slightly raised at the center. In the case of larger cracks and holes, spread the compound over the affected area and embed a closely woven glass fiber membrane into the compound, ensuring it overlaps the crack or hole by approximately 50mm. Allow it to dry and then apply a second coat, fully covering the reinforcing membrane.
For corrugated iron or fiber cement sheeting, tighten any loose hook bolts and trowel around with TROWEL MASTIC. Remove loose screws, re-bed both screws and washers in TROWEL MASTIC, and tighten. Finish by top-sealing and troweling for a smooth surface. If a sheet is cracked, clean, prime, and apply a bandage strip of woven glass membrane embedded in TROWEL MASTIC. After drying, apply an additional coat. Employ the same technique to seal side and end laps in corrugated sheeting if needed.
For tiles, utilize TROWEL MASTIC to point up the butt ends of ridge tiles, fillets, and slates.
In the case of lead and zinc, trowel over cracks and pinholes. If necessary, reinforce with a woven glass fiber membrane embedded in TROWEL MASTIC, followed by an overcoat.
For felt, re-adhere loose felt (especially flashings and details) and seal joints with TROWEL MASTIC. It’s important to note that this material should only be applied to completely dry surfaces, and special care should be taken to ensure that when applied to bitumen felt, no moisture is present within the felt.
LIMITATIONS
• Avoid using in areas where future solvent contact is anticipated.
• Not suitable for potable drinking water tanks.
• Ensure an adequate drying period between coats.
• Be aware that bitumen paint may seep through any subsequently applied paints. Prior to repainting, apply a primer recommended by the paint manufacturer.
