Cromar AlphaChem Contract PVA is a versatile product with several key features:
Multi-purpose Functionality: It serves as a bonding agent, primer sealer, cement filler, and plaster admixture, catering to various construction and DIY needs.
Compatibility: Adheres to most common building and DIY materials, excluding PVC and rubber, ensuring broad applicability across different projects.
Versatility: Contract PVA is ideal for priming unsound surfaces before plastering or painting, acting as an adhesive for wood, cork, textiles, and porous surfaces, and providing general dust sealing on flaking paintwork or walls.
Cement Admixture: Enhances the flexibility of mortars and screeds, improving their performance in construction applications.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that for areas prone to constant dampness, Cromar SBR Bond, a water-resistant alternative, is recommended.
Storage: For the safekeeping of Contract PVA, it is imperative to tightly seal containers to inhibit water evaporation and surface skin formation. Storage at temperatures above freezing is essential. It’s recommended to store the emulsion within a temperature range of 5 to 25°C for no more than six months. Exposure to higher temperatures can compromise quality, leading to the development of crusts and skins, particularly if containers are inadequately sealed or exposed to prolonged direct sunlight.

Cromar AlphaChem Contract PVA serves as a general-purpose adhesive, suitable for bonding wood, cork, paper, textiles, and more. Additionally, it acts as an effective admixture, enhancing the performance of mortar, screeds, and renders. As a bonding agent, it facilitates adhesion of screeds and renders to challenging substrates. In tiling applications, it functions admirably as a primer and sealer. Moreover, when mixed with wood shavings or plaster, it serves as an internal filler.
APPLICATION
- Ensure all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, dried, and devoid of grease before application.
- For general priming purposes, dilute 3 parts water with 1 part CONTRACT PVA and apply using a brush. Allow to dry completely.
- When using as a bonding coat, apply undiluted with a brush. Plaster or render should be applied while the bonding coat is still tacky.
- For adhesive applications, use undiluted CONTRACT PVA. Apply to each surface and press them together firmly. Large areas may require clamping for 24 hours.
- To utilize as a cement admixture, add 5 liters of CONTRACT PVA to 25 kg of cement.
- For filler or plaster admixture, dilute with water in a 1:1 ratio and incorporate into the mix instead of water.
- Clean tools and any excess CONTRACT PVA with clean, cold water after use to maintain their longevity.
LIMITATIONS
- Avoid using in outdoor applications or in areas prone to constant dampness. For such conditions, SBR Bond is recommended.
- Since the manufacturer cannot anticipate all potential uses of its products, it is the user’s responsibility to ascertain suitability for their intended application. In case of uncertainty, please reach out to the Technical Services department for guidance. Safety Data is available upon request.
